China’s largest Linear-Fresnel CSP plant—Three Gorges Energy’s Hami Integrated Demonstration Project—reaches full-capacity operation
On 18 September 2025, the 100 MW solar-thermal block of the China Three Gorges Hami Multi-Energy Demonstration Project—China’s largest linear-Fresnel plant—was fully commissioned and synchronized to the grid. China United Engineering Corporation served as the owner’s engineer. The milestone marks the first commercial deployment of an integrated “CSP + PV” operating model in China and sets a new construction-speed record for this technology.
Invested in and built by Three Gorges New Energy Hami Wind Power Co., Ltd., the 1 GW complex is located in Xishan Township, Yizhou District, Hami, Xinjiang. It is the biggest linear-Fresnel multi-energy project in the region. The CSP section uses molten-salt linear-Fresnel technology: 46 collector loops cover 800,000 m² and provide eight hours of thermal storage, enabling round-the-clock generation.
By combining dispatchable CSP storage with the photovoltaic array, the plant smooths the intermittency and volatility typical of renewable generation, delivering firm, low-carbon and cost-competitive power. Expected annual output is 2.067 TWh, saving roughly 620,000 t of standard coal and cutting CO₂ emissions by 1.63 million t per year—another cornerstone in China’s transition to a clean-energy system.
